You know who's steampunk now? Justin Bieber.

"Noooo! BLASPHEMY!!" I hear you cry.

Well, sometimes seeing is believing. Click with trepidation, cogsters.

Oh, the horror. Of course the "steampunk" is purely in the set dressing and costumes. The music is an unimaginative rendering of a tired old carol.

Steampunk Sounds: Byronic Twist

Emergent artist Sasha Cuha, aka "ByronicTwist" brings us his bohemian music and spoken word based debut album, "Past the Sparrow Flight Hour".  An animated taste here:

This sumptuous and decadent soundscape is just the perfect thing for one's darker moods, the poetry is contemplative and rich in imagery and the music is a lovely accompaniment.  While lounging beside your absinthe fountain or nestled up with your favourite companion and poetry volume you could scarce have a better acoustic accompaniment.

In addition to writing all the poetry, all the instruments on the album are played by the same extraordinarily talented neovictorian gentlemen.

The album is being released by the artist though reverbnation and is available here: http://www.reverbnation.com/store/view_item_album/artist_1020584?item_id=831602

If you are looking for something original and different that speaks to your bohemian soul, you're definitely going to want to give this a listen.

Music for Steampunks and NeoVictorians..

This came up on my radar today.. it's a cute little expose of some up-and-coming neovictorian bands/artists.. it gives you a bit of an idea what they sound like by playing snippets of a few songs. There's some lovely imagrey ganked from the video clips..

Everyone's favourite Rasputina is there, and some lesser known female vocalists - Hannah Fury and Morgan Grace..

Part two has  Emilie Autumn:

Both of these are a great way to determine whether or not you like this style of music. I adore it with the fire of a thousand suns, but others find it akin to fingernails on a blackboard.

Have a listen and let us know what you think in the comments..

Autotune used for Good, not Evil...

We've all seen autotune used for evil (Glee, anyone?) but this is a brilliant example of it being used for AWESOME..

The very talented John Boswell is the brain behind "The Symphony of Science". He's made two brilliant mashups so far and I'm sure I am not the only one who hopes he makes many more.

I cannot watch either of these without getting teary-eyed. They will definately feature in my dj sets from now on!
